Issue No. 2: Archives
Our first print issue
For issue 2, we are publishing Sound Fields in print!
Issue 2 is The Archives Issue — an attempt to reckon with the future of our field by engaging with the past. As we embark on our first print issue, we’re intrigued by ideas about how to make tangible the ephemera of sounds, of RSS feeds, of digital media. And we’re inviting our global network of fellow documentarians to consider: How does documentary audio intersect with the archive; and, How are we as audio documentarians archivists? Just like our first issue, you can expect essays and Q and As from some of the most groundbreaking audio documentarians working today.
Pre-order now!
We’ve launched a pre-sale campaign for issue 2 with the support of Union Docs (which means donations are tax deductible!).
Yes, we’re asking you to commit to supporting issue 2 before it exists! That’s because this is a 100% community-supported limited print run, and we need you to pledge your support now so we can make a beautiful journal worthy of our brilliant contributors. Thanks to the generous support of our friends at Transom, we are committed to paying an honorarium to all contributors (if you’d also like to donate to our honoraria and editorial fund - please choose a VIP reward!), but those of us behind the scenes are still all working on a volunteer basis.
Our goal is to pre-sell at least 100 copies so we can print and send you a beautiful art object of a journal in the spring of 2025.
In the meantime, you can read our Transom Manifesto by editors Sandhya Dirks and Kalli Anderson or this essay about docufiction by Talia Augustidis.
